08/15/08 15:48The Arlington County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman and her grandson. 60 year old Lansen Li was last seen at approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 15 when she took her infant grandson, Jeffrey, for a walk. Ms. Li frequently pushes Jeffery in a stroller through the Arlington-East Falls Church neighborhood. Ms. Li does not have any medical problems, but she left without any identification or money. She also did not pack any supplies for the baby, including food or diapers.

Ms. Li is 5’2” tall and weighs approximately 110 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes. Ms. Li recently moved to the United States and does not speak English. Her primary language is Mandarin Chinese. She left home wearing tan pants, a blue and green floral shirt, gold sandals, and a gold heart necklace. Her grandson is Jeffrey Chen. He is 10 months old and weighs 25 lbs. Jeffrey has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing red pants and a blue shirt over a white one piece jumper. Jeffrey’s stroller is navy blue and gray.

The grandmother and child were last seen in the 6900 block of N. 30th Street. Ms. Li is also known to frequent the areas around Tuckahoe Elementary, Bishop O’Connell High School, and the W & OD Trail. Anyone with any information about Ms. Li and Jeffrey’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.dlp/oem
08/15/08 10:57Arlington County has lifted the advisory it issued on Thursday, August 7 for the Four Mile Run stream from Westover Park to the Potomac River. The advisory was issued following a second release of portable lavatory waste into the storm sewer system that empties into the park near N. Kennebec Street and the bicycle trail at I-66.

The County took the precautionary measure of warning residents to avoid contact with the waters downstream from the spill site. The precaution was meant to allow the normal ecological process in the streams to reduce the potentially elevated bacteria levels caused by the release.

Following a clean up procedure using a vacuum truck and several days of stream flow, Arlington County now recommends that residents resume adherence to its normal protective precautions for safe use of its urban streams. You can find information and safety tips on Arlington streams on the Arlington County Department of Environmental Services web site at www.arlingtonva.us/des.

Residents in the area of Westover Park can assist the County in this investigation by calling 911 to report any suspected illegal dumping. dlp/oem

08/11/08 15:01Starting Tuesday, August 12, Arlington County will test its sanitary sewer system with smoke to detect leaks and cracks.

The testing, which will last through Monday, September 15, will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the area bounded on the north by Route 50, on the west by S. Wakefield Street, on the East by S. Highland Street and on the south by 22nd Street South.

Residents can expect to see workmen in their neighborhoods, and may see white smoke rising from the sanitary sewers, residential vent stacks and open drains. The smoke is odorless, harmless and does not stain. This is the fourth consecutive year the County has used such testing to detect defects in the sewer system.
